Yael Hovav’s paintings represent a process in which she tries to create an autonomous pictorial world. The information that feeds this worldis obtained from a variety of source materials and motivations: the private body, local scenery, and discussion with art history, as well asformalistic questions.

She’s influenced by literary terms in the sense that bodies and scenery can be seen as ”characters” and ”settings”, even if a definednarrative is not necessarily present.
Yael approaches painting as one would approach a riddle, editing her process continuously and defining the elements she has created to inhabit her forming space, while striving to locate her work within the context of contemporary figurative painting.
