A series of gif videos interpreting the experiences of a 1.5 generation who immigrated from the former Soviet Union based on a spoken word songs.

Generation 1.5 is the children of immigrants who came with their parents in childhood or early adolescence and grew up in Israel. We are not exactly the first generation, since our parents experienced the full rise in social and economic phenomena, but we are not a second generation either because we were not born here, Hebrew is our second language and the attitude toward us is ambivalent. Many Israelis still insist on calling us “Russians”, and we ourselves oscillate between the two identities. The project touches upon an integrated Russian-Israeli culture, with the desire to shake up and redefine the concept of “melting pot of Israel” as it has been since the establishment of the state, in order to integrate and feel belonging but also cherish our parent’s culture and maintain our uniqueness as a diverse and multicultural society.
