Artwork: A Series of Rust Prints

While learning the etching technique I had accidentally left an iron plate in acid for too long, which caused it to rust. When I nevertheless tried to press it, the rust transferred onto the paper. Fascinated by the effect I went on to create a series of rust prints, each a unique, one of its kind piece.
Rust, the product of iron oxidation, is usually seen as an undesired process of disintegration and decay, symbolizing the passage of time and the withering away of physical existence, a phenomenon which cannot be controlled or prevented though most of us battle with it all our lives. These rust prints capture this complexity that the process embodies in its charged, melancholic beauty.
